PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON FOR PINOCCHIO BY ROBERT DOWNEY JR
Finally it seems that Robert Downey Jr. and Paul Thomas Anderson will manage to work together. And a short distance from the failure of the plan that was supposed to see them busy on the set of It Runs in the form , which the actor had to give up because of his commitments with Marvel. For the two long-time friends, then, the opportunity would come from the project instead of Pinocchio 'live action' on which he is working for some time with the Warner Bros. Team Downey.
At least since 2012 , when the adaptation of the novel by Carlo Collodi had been entrusted to Bryan Fuller and Jane Goldman, and the film to Tim Burton . But the commitment with Disney's director of Alice in Wonderland (and soon Dumbo ) has decisively undermined the possibility to realize the 'marriage'. To the delight of fans of Paul Thomas Anderson, which in addition to the script could end up with the deal also directing, as the story does not seem in his ropes.
So, waiting for it to unlock similar project (but animated , of course) by Guillermo Del Toro, it seems that the dream of Robert Downey Jr. to play the character of Geppetto make progress. There is also already the script of Michael Mitnick (The Giver), on which Downey Jr. has spent the last six months, correcting and remodeling and that may - but not necessarily - as a point of departure to that of Anderson.
The moment, however, is definitely favorable, given the many live action versions of famous fairy tales in preparation (or realized, as the Cinderella of Kenneth Branagh ): from Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson at the two Disney Jungle Book (that Jon Favreau is already running ) and Warner Bros. (with Benedict Cumberbatch, Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett), to the Little Mermaid just abandoned by Sofia Coppola .
